Sligo Councillor says new social housing project will not address crisis



A Sligo Councillor has expressed little faith in the Housing Minister over the delivery of social housing for County Sligo.

 

It comes as Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien confirmed yesterday that 60 new social houses are to be constructed in Sligo as part of the Public Private Partnership Programme.

 

But local Sinn Fein Cllr Arthur Gibbons says not only does he have no confidence in the delivery of the project but the allocation itself is a drop in the ocean of what’s needed to tackle the lengthy waiting list in Sligo.

 

Cllr Gibbons believes that there have been several false dawns and empty promises in the past as it relates to housing in the county:
