Local TD expresses concern over new policing model for North West



Sinn Fein’s Justice Spokesperson is calling for reassurances over how effective a new policing model for An Garda Siochana will be in the North West.

 

It comes as it was revealed last month that Chief Superintendent for Sligo/Leitrim Aidan Glacken is to take over the responsibility for the Donegal Division along with his current duties.

 

Meanwhile, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris is due in Donegal later this month where it’s expected the matter will also be discussed.

 

But Deputy Martin Kenny says serious questions need to be answered over how this will work going forward.

 

Deputy Kenny says with the North West already severely lacking in frontline Gardaí generally, assurances need to be given that the Sligo/Leitrim area will only benefit from the plans:
