Reasons behind plans to remove limit on alcohol licences ‘rubbish’



The Donegal Spokesperson for the Vintners Association of Ireland has described plans to remove the limit on the number of alcohol licences as ‘nonsense’ and ‘rubbish’.

 

Justice Minister Helen McEntee announced the proposal to try to “revitalise and reinvigorate” rural Ireland.

 

However the group that represents rural publicans believe that the move would have the opposite effect.

 

VFI Donegal Treasurer and Fine Gael Cllr Martin Harley says in many villages there isn’t enough business for even one pub to survive.
