Sligo trio in Connacht interpro squad

Sligo natives Nicole Fowley, Gráinne O’Loughlin and Sonia McDermott have all been included in the Connacht senior women’s rugby squad for the interprovincial championship which begins this Saturday against Leinster in Dublin.

Ballybofey’s Laura Feely and former Sligo player Hannah Coen are also included in the extended 37-strong squad.

O’Loughlin and McDermott both play their club rugby with Railway Union in Dublin – while Fowley, who’s been part of the Ireland senior women’s international set-up in recent years, plays with Galwegians.

Connacht’s opening game against Leinster will be on Saturday afternoon at Energia Park in Dublin at 2:30pm.

They’ll travel to Belfast to play Ulster on Saturday, Jan 14th – followed by a home game against Munster on Jan 21st.

Lyndon Jones is the new Connacht women’s head coach – a post previously held by Sligo’s Ross Mannion.

A new broadcast deal for the Vodafone women’s interprovincial championship means that all games will be televised live by TG4 and the BBC iplayer.

Saturday’s opening game between Leinster and Connacht will be live on TG4.
