Concern in Leitrim over jobs initiative scheme

A Leitrim councillor is raising concerns over the possibility of workers that are currently employed on the ‘jobs initiative scheme’ to continue on working past the age of 66.

Manorhamilton MD Councillor Sean McDermott says that the numbers of people working on these schemes in Leitrim has reduced from 25 to 4 in recent years.

The fine Gael elected representative is calling for the government to provide clarity on the issue. He says the jobs initiative scheme offers participants full time work as opposed to part time hours which are being offered on other schemes.

Speaking to Ocean FM Cllr McDermott says workers should be afforded the opportunity to continue to provide a valuable service to community groups.
