Four Masters beaten in Ulster minor final

There was disappointment for Four Masters in the New Year’s Day Ulster minor club football tournament final in Belfast as a late goal gave Derry champions St Canice’s Dungiven victory by 2-7 to 1-8.

The Donegal side appeared to be on course for a narrow victory as the game entered the closing stages but Dungiven struck for a late three-pointer to snatch the win.

Four Masters led by 1-4 to 0-6 thanks to a Senan Carr goal – although Dungiven looked the better team for much of the opening half.

This current group of players had won ever underage county title in Donegal, as well as an All-Ireland Féile title, and were bidding to become just the third Donegal club to win the prestigious minor tournament, which has been hosted by the St Paul’s GAA Club in Belfast since 1982.

Killybegs were winners in 1984 and 1985 while Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon won it in 1992.

Four Masters manager Damien Dunnion spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Conor Breslin after Sunday’s final.
