Councillor calls for more Garda resources in Sligo



A Sligo Councillor says the opening of a state of the art Garda facility in Kilmainham over the weekend is another prime example of the lack of balanced development that currently exists between the north west and the rest of the country.

 

The new garda facility will be home to up 900 Gardaí once fully operational and will house the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

 

Back in June 2020 plans to construct a new Garda Station at Caltragh in Sligo were shelved by the Garda commissioner Drew Harris who instead instructed that upgrade works were to be carried out at the existing Garda Station on Pearse Road.
