All-Stars suffer second defeat to St Vincent’s

EJ Sligo All-Stars suffered their second defeat in a week to in-form Dublin side St Vincent’s on Saturday night as they went down by 93 points to 79 in the men’s Superleague encounter at the Mercy College Gym.

The result came seven days after the All-Stars lost to the same opposition in the opening round of the senior cup in Dublin (94-75).

In the league game, the All-Stars trailed by just two points after the opening quarter (22-24) before Vincent’s made a push in Q2 to move eight clear by the interval (35-43).

That lead grew to the 19 points by the end of the third quarter – and while Sligo battled hard to find a way back in the final quarter, Vinent’s were able to keep their opponents at arms length to collect the win.

Galway Maree are the new Superleague laders after their victory in Cork over Ballincollig on Saturday night.

The All-Stars lie seventh in the table (out of 14) after six matches played.
