Sligo Rovers women finish 8th in inaugural League campaign



Sligo Rovers completed their first ever season in the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League on Saturday with a 5-1 home defeat to DLR Waves at the Showgrounds.

Rovers Lauren Boles, who was the named as Rovers Player of the Season having played every minute of every league game this season, scored the home side’s only goal of the game.

Steve Feeney’s side finish eighth in the table on 20 points.

Noel King’s Shelbourne retained the title after a 4-0 win against title rivals Wexford Youths at Ferrycarrig Park.

Athlone Town finish runners-up after their 2-1 win over Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

The Athlone team included Gurteen’s Roisin Molloy and Manorhamilton’s Muireann Devaney.

Athlone still have a chance to win silverware as they will contest the women’s FAI Cup final next weekend.
