Electricity bills skyrocket for Sligo shop, Dail hears



The Dail has heard that one local shop in Sligo has seen their bills increase by five thousand euro per month.

 

Speaking to Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Independent TD Marian Harkin made reference to the Centra Store in Maugheraboy, and the fact that their electricity bill alone has trebled from seven thousand euro to 20 thousand 960 euro in the space of three years.

 

There’s ongoing concern that smaller shops are suffering the most through the current cost of living crisis.

Responding, Leo Varadkar says there are a number of measures in the Budget to help them but acknowledged that the Government cannot fully insulte businesses for the rise in costs:
