MacSharry’s return to Fianna Fáil expected to be confirmed next week

The return of Marc MacSharry to the Fianna Fáil party has moved a step closer to becoming a reality.

It’s being reported that last night’s parliamentary party meeting has cleared the way for the Sligo Leitrim TD to return to the party.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is believed to have told the meeting that he spoke to the Sligo TD who outlined his wish to return to the parliamentary party.

It’s now expected that a motion will now be tabled by Party Whip Jack Chambers at next week’s parliamentary party meeting to propose Deputy MacSharry’s return.

Deputy MacSharry retained his seat in the 2020 general election.   Last September he resigned from the party over a controversy that surrounded Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney and his handling of the nomination of Katherine Zappone to a UN role.

Deputy MacSharry continued to support the coalition Government in Dáil and while there was widespread support for his return at the recent part Ard Fheis. It’s understood that some Fianna Fáil TD’’s objected to his reappointment at a party meeting last week.

Deputy MacSharry has declined to comment on the latest reports when contacted by Ocean FM.
