Local TD accuses exiting Banks of not adequately assisting customers looking to change accounts

A Sligo Leitrim TD says the imminent closure of Ulster Bank and KBC is causing severe stress for many people across the north west.

Independent TD Marian Harkin says the banks that are about to exit the Irish market are not doing enough to assist customers with moving their accounts to other financial institutions.

The Banking and Payments Federation of Ireland says 365 thousand new current accounts have been opened so far this year however it’s estimated that there is still around 450 thousand customers who’ve yet to make the switch.

Deputy Harkin says she knows many people that are having extreme difficulty with the process of changing accounts.  She is fearful there will be chaos in the months ahead.
