Sligo Councillor warns that antisocial behaviour is preventing people from using public transport

A Sligo Councillor says passengers that regularly use public transport are fearful for their safety.

The Garda commissioner, Drew Harris yesterday rejected calls to establish Garda transport unit, despite a number of antisocial incidents on public transport.

Ballymote Tubbercurry Councillor Paul Taylor says that more people would like to avail of public in the north west especially during the cost of living crisis and the high fuel prices.

However he fears that many feel intimated on trains and buses and yesterday’s decision not to introduce a Garda presence on public transport will do little to improve their confidence in the service.
