Councillor calls for property refurbishment grant scheme to be extended to rural Sligo

A Sligo Councillor is calling on the Housing Minister to expand the town and village property refurbishment grant scheme to include vacant properties in rural Co Sligo.

Minister Darragh O’Brien announced recently a scheme to bring vacant buildings in towns and villages back into use for housing.

A grant of up to a maximum of €30,000 will be available for the refurbishment of vacant properties for occupation as a principal private residence, including the conversion of a property which was previously a commercial premises.

In light of the current housing crisis in Sligo Ballymote Tubbercurry Councillor Dara Mulvey is calling a similar scheme for renovating derelict housing which are located in rural places outside of towns and villages.
