Ann-Marie McGlynn finishes 29th at European Championships



Ann-Marie McGlynn ran a season’s best time to finish 29th in the Women’s Marathon at the European Athletics Championships in Munich on Monday morning.

McGlynn, who is a native of Offaly but a member of Letterkenny AC ran a time of 2:38:26.

Other Irish athletes in the field included Fionnuala McCormack, who finished 7th in a time of 2:29:25 and 34th place Aoife Cooke (2:40:37).

Similar to Irish teammate McGlynn; McCormack and Cooke both also recorded season best times with the Irish team fifth overall in the team standings.

The race was won by Poland’s Aleksandra Lisowska in a time of 2:28:36 with Coratia’s Matea Parlov Kostro taking home silver while Dutch runner Nienke Brinkman came third.

Elsewhere at the European Championships, Finn Valley AC’s Brendan Boyce is part of the field for the for the men’s 35k race walk on Tuesday morning.

Fellow Finn Valley AC athletes Mark English (800m), Eilish Flanagan (3000m) and Róisín Flanagan (5000m) will be in action on Saturday.
