Hopes south Donegal could return to Donegal constituency as speculation heightens over census figures



A Donegal Sinn Fein TD is hopeful that south Donegal could return to the Donegal constituency as speculation heightens over how the new Electoral Commission acts on the rise in population.

 

The initial census results indicate that the State will have to have at least 171 TDs in the next Dail in order to comply with the requirement to have at least one deputy for every 30,000 people.

 

It’s predicted that the Donegal constituency could get an extra seat in the next General Election, resulting in the county becoming a six seat constituency, provided the necessary legislation is changed.
