Councillor warns that housing crisis could cost Sligo future jobs

There are fears that Sligo will lose out on much needed jobs if the local housing crisis is not addressed.

That’s according to Fianna Fail Cllr Donal Gilroy who warned that if the likes of IDA send people to the town to assess the area for investment they will turn on their heels due to a major lack of housing.

Coupled with this, Cllr Gilroy says the lack of student accommodation for this upcoming term also presents a very real problem.

He is calling for an immediate inspection of all vacant properties in Sligo and its environs to see if they can be turned over into habitable dwellings.
