North West families struggle to get accomodation for hospital appointments in Dublin, Dail hears



The Dail has heard that families in the North West who need to travel to Dublin for hospital appointments are finding it increasingly difficult to find hotel accommodation or faced with ‘eye watering’ prices.

 

The issue was raised in recent days by Sinn Fein Donegal TD Pearse Doherty who questioned if the Government has engaged with the sector to discuss the skyrocketing prices in the Capital.

 

Deputy Doherty says these hotels are enjoying an extension of the 9% VAT rate and the reduction should be passed on to customers:

 

 

Responding Government Chief Whip Jack Chambers says he will ask the Tourism Minister to engage with Deputy Doherty on the matter but acknowledged that Ireland should be mindful of not losing its competitive edge:
