Sligo wins local sports partnership of the year award

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership (SSRP) was among the award winners at the Irish Sport Industry Awards Ceremony in Dublin on Wednesday night.

Sligo won ‘Local Sports Partnership of the Year’ for its LeadHers Educational programme.

A key element to come from it was the creation of a Women In Sport leadership network among women in Sligo.

Deirdre Lavin, Sports Co-ordinator with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, spoke to Ocean FM’s Austin O’Callaghan about the win:

In 2021, SSRP introduced a bespoke Women in Sport Leadership Course to the clubs of Sligo, the first time this highly rated national course was rolled out at County level.

This followed a detailed survey carried out by the partnership last year

The key driver was to help enhance support structures to encourage more women to step into leadership roles in sport.

Last October, the Partnership published the findings of a survey which examined the current sports landscape for women in Sligo while also looking to the future.

Suibhean Crowne from SSRP spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan about the findings on ‘The Final Whistle’.
