Sligo Councillor calls on general public & government to support Post offices



A Sligo Councillor is calling on the general public as well as the government to provide support to post offices.

 

Postmasters will tell an Oireachtas Committee later the Post Office Network’s at a “critical juncture” and in desperate need of government support.

 

The Irish Postmasters Union will tell TD’s and Senators that 12 million euro in annual funding’s needed to prevent “large scale” closures.

 

873 of the 918 branches across the country are run by self-employed postmasters.

 

Sligo Drumcliff Councillor Donal Gilroy has witnessed local post offices in his region close in Ratchcormack, Drumcliff, Cliffoney and Maugherow.
