Donegal school recognised in Green-Schools Water Awards

Kilbarron National School in Ballyshannon has been named Northern and Western Region water school of the year in the Green- Schools water awards.

The awards were hosted by An Taisce Green-Schools and Irish Water.

The students in Kilbaron National School in Donegal showed exceptional commitment to the water theme and to raising awareness of the value of water in their school and the wider community.

Students embraced water conservation, undertaking a water survey, conducting leak tests and calculating water usage in the school.

Kilbaron National School was recognised for installing water saving devices, fixing water leaks, as well as implementing other water-saving measures including the installation of a water butt.

The school also visited a local water treatment plant and encouraged all students and their families to become more aware by sharing ‘water saving tips’ as well as undertaking a “Walk for Water”.

In Sligo, Coláiste Iascaigh students Leah Chapman, Muireann O’Reilly and Alanna Henry were recognised as Runner-Ups in the Water Ambassador Programme Awards for all their hard work in water conservation at the school.

Alice Mulkeen and Noya Batia Montbouli both students at Carbury National School took home a Water Award each for their posters in the Junior Primary and Senior Primary School categories.
