Sligo Council Cathaoirleach raises concerns over complex public procurement process.

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council says too many small local building contractors are unable to tender for large contracts in this region due to a complex public procurement process.

Cllr Paul Taylor says many building contractors situated in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal provide employment in the region and support many local businesses including hardware outlets, building suppliers and local quarries.

The Fianna Fáil Councillor says they are prevented for submitting tenders due to the criteria that is attached to bigger and larger scale contracts which requires information on the completion of previous projects and financial turnover.

The Ballymote Tubbercurry Municipal District Councillor says the qualifying criteria must change, he says the region needs these contractors and they must be supported.
