Rural Ireland Organisation takes issue with turf claims by Minister



The Rural Ireland Organisation has taken issue with claims by Minister Eamon Ryan that the ban on the selling of turf would not impact communities of less than 500 people.

 

Leader of the Organisation Gerry Loftus says that this is nothing more than a wild unworkable statement that actually means nothing and is enforceable.

 

He says that Minister Ryan and the Government are well aware that under Ireland’s Peatlands strategy and under Pillar 1 of the up and coming CAP programme.

 

Mr Loftus says it is now the responsibility of Minister Ryan and the Government to combine the protection of peatlands and the constitutional right of people that want to save turf:
