Sinn Féin’s housing spokesman calls for mica redress to be extended nationwide

Calls are being made this morning to extend the Mica redress scheme to every county in Ireland.

The scheme announced last year only covers Donegal and Mayo.  There was intense speculation this week that the department’s considering extending it to a number of other counties including Sligo, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary.

But a new report by an expert group says the problem may be far more widespread than feared.

Already there have been cases of Mica or Pyrite reported in a number of other counties not thought to be on the list.  Properties with the defective blocks condition have already been reported in Leitrim.

Sinn Féin’s housing spokesman, Eoin Ó Broin, says the scheme should cover any home affected by the defective blocks.
