Sligo Councillors calls for new Regional Health Areas to be time to succeed

A local Councillor says the plan to create a number of new Regional Health Areas to address healthcare issues must be given a chance to address the issues currently impacting the health service.

The moves are being made under key Sláintecare reforms.

The new RHA’s will be sub-divisions of the HSE, and will be able to plan, fund, manage and deliver healthcare in their specific region.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said that the plan will benefit patients and HSE staff.

Already concern has been expressed in some quarters that it’s a throwback to the old style health boards.

Sligo Councillor and member of the North West Regional Health Forum Donal Gilroy says the new board will be ran different way to the old health boards were operated.
