Community Response Forum set up in Sligo to help Ukrainian refugees

A Community Response Forum has been established in Sligo to help deal with the influx of Ukrainian refugees to the county.

The immediate priority for the Sligo-based group is the provision emergency beds.

Sligo County Council were mandated to provide 75 beds last weekend for refugees while a further number is expected to arrive in the coming days.

Refugees are being houses in a number of locations around the north west, including Bundoran in DOnegal, a number of locations in Sligo, including Cregg House, Sligo Town, in the Strandhill and Rosses Point areas, as well as in the south of the county.

Sligo County Council is working with Sligo Leader Partnership Company and other agencies to identify suitable location(s) for emergency beds and also the provision of on-site support facilities.

Sligo LEADER, together with the lead-agencies, will be organising a welcome event and drop-in facility for people who need information from different agencies involved every Wednesday morning in the Avalon Centre, at Chapel Street, in Sligo town, starting tomorrow between 10am-1pm.

John Feerick is the CEO of Sligo Leader . . . he says it was necessary that a coordinated response be launched to address the situation.

The Leader company CEO says refugees will be housed at various locations across the county. He says all the locations under consideration have not been fully finalised.
