Sligo to meet Donegal in Hurling league semi-final

Sligo and Donegal hurlers will face off in the semi-finals in Division 2B of the Allianz Hurling League following both sides respective Round Five results on Sunday afternoon.

In a dramatic game in Aughrim, Sligo produced a dominant opening half with Gerard O’Kelly- Lynch, Andrew Kilcullen and Finnian Cawley all finding the back of the net for Padraig Mannion’s charges.

Despite the large margin, Wicklow did not concede defeat. Half-forward John Doyle scored seven vital points for Eamonn Scanlon’s side while Kieran Conway and John Toomey raised green flags.

A Doyle free left the margin at three as the game entered injury time. Sligo searched for a vital score to go four ahead, however it did not arrive as Conway scored his second goal in the 72nd minute of the game to level proceedings and ensure the points were shared between the sides.

Things were more straight forward for Donegal away to Mayo in Ballina. Mickey McCann’s side led by one-point at the interval with Bernard Lafferty rattling the back of the net.

Key scores from Davin Flynn (a goal) and Gerry Gilmore (four points) provided the platform the Tír Chonaill men’s victory and a spot in the league semi-final.

The winners of the semi-final will play Derry in the final following the Oakleaf county’s fifth successive win at the expense of London.
