Ambitious Killybegs plan goes out to tender

A Donegal councillor says the regeneration of Killybegs town centre has the potential not only to enhance the attractiveness of the town but to elevate it to a top destination in its own right along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Cllr Barry Sweeney, cathaoirleach of the Donegal Municipal District, was speaking after Donegal County Council announced it is seeking tenders for the regeneration project, which has an overall value of €4.84m.

It includes the redevelopment of Island House as a new tourism facility in conjunction with a hub to promote further business, enterprise and innovation.

An existing public car park at The Diamond is to be transformed into a multi-user civic space.

Cllr Sweeney said the project will create ‘wonderful opportunities and possibilities.’
