Fears that dead birds in parts of north Sligo may have had avian flu

A north Sligo councillor is warning people this evening to stay away from any dead birds amid fears they may have been infected by avian flu.

There have been reports of bird flu from around the country; now there are fears it may be present in birds in north Sligo, parts of which are among favourite spots for wild geese.

Cllr Donal Gilroy says it’s important that not only people but also their pets are kept away from the bodies of dead birds.
