Donegal motorists caught driving under the influence

Gardai in Donegal are warning that checkpoints are continuing this week, with a number of drivers penalised for various driving offences.

Two multi agency checkpoints were conducted yesterday by Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit.

A driver was arrested at the first checkpoint yesterday morning in the Letterkenny area after they failed a roadside breath test.

This driver had been socialising the previous night.

Gardai say that they now face a disqualification of 3 months and a €200 fine.

A driver was then arrested on suspicion of drug driving in the Killygordon area in the afternoon at the second checkpoint after they tested positive for cannabis.

One driver failed to stop at the checkpoint in Killygordon and they then also failed to stop for Gardaí when signalled to do so.

They were stopped a short time later with assistance from multiple Garda Units.

The driver was arrested for road traffic offences and has been held in custody to appear in Court.
