Renewed appeal for info about attack on garda near Blacklion

Gardai have issued a renewed appeal for information on the assault on a garda at Loughan, near Blacklion, during the early hours of the 28th February.

During the incident, Garda Padraig Scott, who was on patrol on his own in a Garda car in the area, was attacked and doused with petrol.

Gardai are continuing to investigate the assault on Garda Scott, who was unarmed and in uniform at the time he was attacked.

Last night, one week from the assault, Gardaí carried out a checkpoint at the scene of the attack on the N16 at Loughan.

Speaking this morning, Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern said Garda Scott started duty as normal on Sunday 27th February but as a result of a cowardly attack by unknown criminals he did not finish duty as normal that night.

He was hospitalised and remains off duty, recovering from his injuries and the trauma of this attack.

Chief Superintendent McGovern said the investigation team continues to make progress in this investigation and he appealed for any person with any information to contact investigating Gardaí.

Any member of the public can contact the investigation team at Cavan Garda station or can provide information through the Garda Confidential Phone Number 1800 666 111.

Gardai also want to hear from any person driving on the N16, Cavan, passing Loughan House Prison, or the R206 and R207 at their junction with the N16, between 7pm Sunday 27th February 2022 and 3am Monday 28th February 2022,

They are particularly eager to get video footage, either dashcam or other format.
