Minister supports having Spanish Armada artefacts on local display

Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys says she would be in favour of the likes of a cannon from a Spanish Armada ship being put on display in Sligo, where it was found.

The Minister made the comments on Friday during her visit to Sligo where she said certain artefacts at present in the National Museum of Ireland should be returned to where they were found.

A number of items discovered off the coast of Sligo in 2015 are currently being restored in Dublin.

Minister Humphreys said there is ‘huge opportunity’ for more tourism from having such artefacts on display locally.
