Leitrim Councillor calls for Government owned building to be renovated for Ukrainian refugees

A Leitrim Councillor is calling on the government to sanction the redevelopment of buildings such as former Garda stations and HSE buildings to cater for refuges that are currently leaving the Ukraine.

The matter is expected to be discussed at today’s meeting of Leitrim County Council.

Cllr Sean McDermott says that with thousands of Ukraine nationals forced to feel their country as a result of the conflict there is an onus on all governments across Europe to try and provide as much emergency accommodation as possible.

Latest figures are estimating that as many as 1000,000 refugees from the Ukraine could arrive in this Country

The Fine Gael Councillor says that although many people will open their homes to people from the Ukraine the option to redevelop empty state owned buildings should also be explored
