Sligo Rovers announce signings of attacking trio



Sligo Rovers Women’s senior team have announced the signings of three attacking players ahead of side’s inaugural Women’s National League campaign.

Striker Aoife Brennan has played in the Women’s National League before with Castlebar Celtic and Galway WFC.

The 28-year-old played underage soccer with Ballyglass, before moving to Manulla FC around the age of 15. Brennan was also a student at IT Sligo for four years.

A current IT Sligo sports scholar Lauren McLellan began her career at local club Manulla FC before joining Castlebar Celtic has joined up ahead of the season.

A former Sligo Rovers Under 17 player, McLellan currently features alongside Rovers teammates Katie Melly and Ruth Monaghan on an IT Sligo team that is managed by another fellow teammate in Emma Hansberry.

Similarly to Brennan and McLellan, Fiona Doherty is a native of county Mayo and plays in the attacking third of the pitch.

A native of Foxford, Doherty has enjoyed success in Gaelic football with her club Moy Davitts and the Mayo senior ladies.

The Garda based in Letterkenny has previously played for Ballyvary Blue Bombers and Conn Rangers and is a former student at IT Sligo.
