CCTV Pilot Scheme to discussed at Sligo Council meeting

More than a dozen Sligo county councillors have put down a motion for next Monday’s council meeting calling for funding of €100,000 for a pilot scheme to upgrade CCTV systems at a range of locations located on various access roads.

The move comes in the aftermath of the horrific attack on January 18th last of 73-year old Tom Niland in his home along the N59 road at Doonflin, Skreen.

He remains on life support in Sligo University Hospital.

The councillors want grants of €1,000 for upgrading cameras to include night time number plate recognition outside of businesses, shops, post offices, schools, council premises, community centres, farms, private homes and other locations.

Cllr Michael Clarke says criminals and robbers avoid areas where there are cameras.
