Sligo hurlers get first win of the season

Sligo’s hurlers have won their first game in this year’s Allianz National Hurling League Division 2B.

Following two defeats in the two previous rounds, away to Derry and at home to Donegal, Padraig Mannion’s side produced a strong second half performance to defeat London by nine points in Round Three at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan.

The exiles finished the game with twelve players following a first-half red card to sharpshooter Ronan Crowley, a player who had six points to his credit when he was sent off and two of his teammates received their marching orders thereafter.

Niall Kilcullen received a red card of his own in the second half.

Gerard O’Kelly-Lynch was in imperious form once again. The Naomh Eoin marksman saw his long-range free cannon the upright and Thomas Cawley rattled the back of the net following a goalmouth scramble.

Risteard Lombard got a goal of his own for London late on, however guile and craft from Sligo was enough to see off their opponents.

Sligo face Connacht rivals Mayo on Sunday next, March 6th at 2pm in Ballina.
