Mahon makes SPL debut as Rovers & Harps draw in friendly

John Mahon made his Scottish Premiership debut on Tuesday night for his new club St Johnstone in their 2-1 win against Livingston.

Mahon was introduced as a second-half substitute with half-an-hour to go and acquitted himself well alongside former Dundalk player Daniel Cleary in defence as bottom-of-the-table Saints produced a late winner in the 90th minute through Ali Crawford to claim all three points.

The result moved St Johnstone off the bottom of the SPL on goal difference.

Mahon left Sligo Rovers for Scotland last month for an undisclosed six-figure sum.

Meanwhile, his old club drew 1-1 with North West neighbours Finn Harps in a pre-season friendly at the Showgrounds on Tuesday night.

Niall Morahan gave Rovers a first-half lead – but Harps new signing Conor Tourish equalised early in the second half.

Rovers next friendly is away to Derry City on Friday afternoon.

The new League of Ireland season begins on Friday, February 18th.
