6,296 Covid-19 cases recorded in the north west over one week period

6,296 new cases of Covid 19 were confirmed in the Counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal between January 16th and 22nd.

When the HSE published figures are broken down county by county they show there were 4,102 cases in Donegal, 1,493 were detected in Sligo and 701 in Leitrim.

It’s expected that approximately 115,000 people in Ireland have had ‘long Covid’, or will develop it, according to an Oireachtas study.

It’s 10 per cent of all cases so far – with nearly 1.2 million positive tests during the pandemic.

Independent TD Denis Naughten says this could cost the state 925 million euro in social welfare payments.

The Roscommon-Galway deputy is calling on the HSE to take urgent action.
