Donegal lose to Monaghan in McKenna Cup final

There was disappointment for Donegal in Saturday evening’s Dr McKenna Cup final at Healy Park in Omagh as Monaghan edged to a 1-11 to 0-13 victory.

It’s Monaghan first McKenna Cup title since 2003.

They led Donegal by six points at half-time (1-7 to 0-4) and by nine at one stage in the second-half.

Declan Bonner’s side rallied well in the closing 20 minutes, with Michael Murphy coming off the bench and supplying six points.

The gap was down to one in the dying moments but Monaghan held on to take the honours on the night.

The counties will meet again in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League on March 13th.
