Donegal reach McKenna Cup final

Donegal are through to Saturday’s McKenna Cup final following Tuesday night’s 2-9 to 0-11 win against Derry at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey.

First-half goals from Charles McGuinness and Caolan McGonagle proved crucial in the end in a game which also marked the retun of Kilcar’s Ryan McHugh from injury – with Marc Curran also making his senior debut.

Donegal led by 2-5 to 0-6 at half-time and managed to keep a lead throughout the second half.

Derry, who gave Anton Tohill (son of Anthony) his first senior intercounty start, worked hard throughout but Donegal were full value for their win at the end.

Declan Bonner’s side will face Monaghan in Saturday’s final at Healy Park in Omagh at 5pm.

The night’s other semi-finals went to penalties after Armagh and Monaghan finished level at 0-15 each.

The Farney men won the shoot-out 5-4.
