Permanent Cath lab at Sligo University Hospital could treat 2,000 a year

A Sligo Councillor says a permanent Cath Lab at Sligo University Hospital could mean 2,000 patients a year could be treated instead of having to travel to the likes of Galway.

That’s the view of Sligo/Drumcliffe Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh who is calling for a timeline on when the national review of cardiac service will be completed.

A mobile Cath lab current visits the hospital twice a week.

Councillor Walsh, who is raising the issue at today’s Council Meeting, says Sligo was mentioned as a potential regional hub as far back as 2002.
