President Michael D Higgins has awarded the Presidential Distinguished Service Award to Curry, Co Sligo native Dr Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organisation’s Health Emergencies Programme.
President Higgins made the presentation during a courtesy visit to Aras an Uachtarain.
The award of the medal to Dr Ryan was in recognition of his service to global public health over the course of a number of decades.
