Lack of investment in mental health care is leading to many sleeping rough

A Sligo Leitrim TD says the lack of investment in mental health is a contributing factor to the number of people that are currently sleeping rough on the streets in towns across the local region and country.

Deputy Martin Kenny has made the comments after a noticeable increase in the number of people sleeping on streets and in cars in many Cities and Towns.

The Sinn Fein TD says those that find themselves in this situation without family support structures are most vulnerable.

Deputy Kenny says there are often complex reasons why people find themselves in such a situation.  He added that the blame for this cannot be left with the respective County Councils as many people that are sleeping rough have turned the offer of help from local authorities and various charity organisations.
