78 patients died after getting Covid-19 in north west hospitals



Official figures reveal 78 patients died after being infected with Covid-19 while in Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospitals.

The data was released to the Sunday Independent by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

35 patients in Sligo University Hospital died after getting the virus and a further 43 people died in Letterkenny University Hospital.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 856 patients died after being infected with Covid-19 in an Irish hospital.

The Irish Patient’s Association says outbreaks were to be expected — but there must be a review.

Latest HSE figures show 17 Covid-19 patients are currently in Letterkenny University Hospital with one in ICU.

While there are 6 Covid patients in Sligo University Hospital with one also in ICU.
