A Sligo Leitrim TD is calling on the Children’s Minister, Roderic O’Gorman, to make funding available to supply a Family Resource Centre in Manorhamilton.
There is currently no centre based in North Leitrim with two in the South of the county. The centres in question are situated in Carrick on Shannon and Mohill.
They are operated by Tusla with 121 centres nationwide with the aim of combating disadvantages families face and responding to specific needs.
Sligo Leitrim Independent TD Marian Harkin says the centres in Leitrim do good work, the issue she has is that they are too far for people in the likes of Manorhamilton and Kinlough to travel to.
Responding in the Dáil to the remarks made by Deputy Harkin, Minister O’Gorman admitted he had been given a general response but asked Deputy Harkn to write to him on the issue so he can bring it up directly with Tusla.
