A Sligo/Leitrim TD says overcrowding and lack of staff at Sligo University Hospital should never have been allowed to get to the situation it is currently in.
Independent Deputy, Marian Harkin raised her concerns in the Dáil this week.
An emergency meeting of the Workplace Relations Commission prevented a planned protest at the hospital on Tuesday by members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
Deputy Harkin says permanent staff are expected to work around agency staff’s availability and believes it should be the other way around.
