Local Councillor wants to know how Gardaí will reduce the number of burglaries in Leitrim

Next Monday’s joint policing committee meeting in Leitrim is expected to hear calls on Gardaí to outline how they intend to deal with the large number of burglaries that have taken place locally in recent times.

Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott has tabled a motion on the issue.

He says the regularity and severity of burglaries has led to concern for the elderly and those living alone when it comes to their safety and wellbeing.

The Fine Gael Councillor says the increased garda presence that was very evident during the Covid-19 restrictions helped to reduce the number of crimes such as these that were committed in the north west.  Cllr. McDermott says a greater garda presence is needed on the ground especially in rural regions that are close to the border.
