49 patients waiting for beds in Letterkenny hospital



There is little sign of the strain on the health service in the north west to ease today.

According to the latest INMO trolley watch figures, Letterkenny University Hospital has the highest number of people in the country waiting for beds.

There were 49 people waiting, with 11 of those in the emergency department.

In Sligo University Hospital,  ten people were waiting, with 7 in the emergency department.

273 People were waiting on beds nationwide.

A thousand elective surgeries have been cancelled in the past four weeks as hospitals throughout the country deal with Covid cases.

The head of the HSE has told an Oireachtas committee the health system is under serious pressure as it deals with a fourth surge.

Almost 6-thousand staff are now out on Covid related absence.

Paul Reid says more than three hundred surgeries were being cancelled every week in October.
