Searches carried out in Donegal into alleged pyramid scheme



The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission are investigating alleged reports of a pyramid scheme in Co. Donegal.

Unannounced searches at two properties in the county took place on Tuesday last investigating the alleged crime being run by a marketing company in the health and wellness sector.

Under Section 65 of the Consumer Protection Act 2007, it is illegal to establish, operate, promote or knowingly take part in a pyramid scheme.

If convicted, people and organisations face a fine of upto €150,000 and five years in prison or both.

Investigations are ongoing.
