Bill to ban fur farming

Cabinet is expected to approve a bill banning fur farming in Ireland this morning.

The bill will also provide for a compensation scheme for the three active mink fur farms currently operating in Donegal, Laois and Kerry.

A 4 to 8 million euro package will be provided next year – and the ban won’t kick in until early next year.

Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice is a member of the Oireachtas agriculture committee – he says the ban is needed.
